OUR DEEJAYS |

|
CHRISTINA TUCCILLO Christina has been deejaying for freestyle ecstatic dances since the mid-'80's, starting at the original Barefoot Boogie in New York, then in Boston and on to the Bay Area in the early '90's. Although she deejays in other venues, she particularly loves the barefoot, freestyle environment and the creativity and freedom of expression it allows and encourages. As a dancer and a deejay she loves all kinds of rhythms, tempos and moods and is fascinated by the different effects that music has on people. She says, "I love taking people on a journey, starting slow, building to a peak where there's a sense of joy and freedom and the room as one organism, and back down to a deep, inward space where we can feel whole within ourselves." Expect new and old, heart and soul, staccato and flow, fast and slow, with playful surprises thrown in to keep you on your toes! Sweat, play, connect, pray -- come prepared to move and be moved on many levels.

CLARI aka mango shake Clari started deejaying in the early 90's for Barefoot Boogie. Primarily being a dancer at heart, Clari is moved by the different genres, rhythms, and tempos of music to dance to. But it wasn't until she started deejaying that Clari developed an appreciation for music from around the world. With musical ingredients of rock, electronic, jazz, classical, R&B, house, funk, and playful oldies (to spice things up), Clari stirs up a melting pot of African, Latin, Middle Eastern, Celtic, and the Americas to name a few. She leads you to a quiet space( and lets you sink into your body and exhale); your heart sways into sensuality, reaching down to your gut and warming your hips to move, just move... shake it out, grind it out, stomp it out, chant it out and let your soul play. Artists you might hear on one of Clari's nights: Sting, Santana, Ozomatli, Spearhead, Dj Icey, Keb Mo, Alicia Keys, Ray Charles, Afro Celt Sound System, Chemical Brothers, Delerium, Miles Davis, Dhol Foundation, Elvis, Gabrielle Roth, Ganga Giri, Habib Koite, Madonna.

EMMET Emmet is full of gratitude to be part of the Barefoot Boogie dance community. When you come to see him DJ, expect a full inter-active experience. He spends as much time out from behind the DJs stand as he does picking and mixing his music. More of a facilitator than a DJ, Emmet can say with compete sincerity that he feels his music deeply in the cells, bones and tissues of his body. He hopes you will too. He plays a range of music that tends more towards the mainstream, with a healthy dose of underground and progressive sounds thrown in. Here is a recipe for his sets: 1 part mellow, sweet music 3 parts groovy world, pop or electronic 5 parts shake your booty and feel the funk grooves 2 parts latin swerve 2 parts African or middle eastern mystic rhythms 4 parts fun top 40, disco, house, club dance and hip-hop (stuff you will all know) 2 parts high-energy, charka exploding, bass thumping, run-around-the-room electronic and world dance mixes Ride the wave of two bell curves during a set.Add a steady pace of serious athletic dancing, soothing, soft movement and ridiculous vocalization. Stir in interactive connection with other dancers. Add a dash of lyrics you know and love. Mix for 2 -4 hours. Enjoy! |

DJ IORGOS guest deejay Iorgos was the resident deejay at Dance Alternative in Seattle Washington from 1987 to 1990. Since then he has been deejaying at parties or as guest deejay in different events. In January 2005, he deejayed for Liquid Moves, a barefoot boogie dance event in Utrecht Holland. In December of 2006, he started World Dance in the same town and has been the resident deejay there. Iorgos was born in Greece, from an uprooted family whose origins disappear in the mysterious and mystical eastern side of the Meditterrenean basin. His music selection favors Middle Eastern and Balkan rhythms mixed, of course, with all the other known and favorite styles such as pop, soul, funk etc . He loves to blend sounds from all parts of the World and introduce the kind of ethnic fusion electronica that he considers innovative and soul-stirring. “When I am lucky in my deejaying sometimes I dream of a body collective, a divine dance energy that challenges me to be fully present and attuned to the flow, magic and fullness of the present moment…or other times, I experience this presence as a Lover….whose pulsing passion for Life takes the dancefloor through endless waves of rising, climaxing and falling energy….” …DJ Iorgos |
